Another Dimension
Dreams have always been a mystery to mankind. It is believed that dreams are a way by which the human brain tries to make sense with the data available around it. Freud, one the great minds to have studied about the topic, believes that dreams are a disguised fulfillment of a repressed wish. This might sound illogical at first but when we think about it, makes all the sense in the world. A nature of a dream largely depends on the mindset of the person before going into sleep. The same reason why a person gets nightmares after watching something horrific. Dreams, be it good or bad, everyone has experienced it irrespective of their gender, age, race, physical condition.
I've always wondered what is the significance of a dream. A most common dream that almost all people would have experienced is free fall. In free fall, most often than not the person experiencing the same would eventually wake up just a moment before hitting the ground. If we think of it, in case of an actual free fall, we cannot mentally simulate the aftermath of the hit since it is a data that the human mind does not have. Is it why we wake up before hitting the ground or is it due to the survival instincts taking over and the body waking up to avoid possible damage which cuts off the dream.
Sometimes dreams feel like a portal to another dimension. We live in a world having 4 dimensions, an X, Y and Z coordinate of the space and time being the fourth dimension. That's why when we schedule a meeting, we usually put the time also along with the place. Is dreams a portal through which the human mind tries to access the 5th dimension ?. If the universe is indeed random, isn't it logical that there are another set of events that could result in an entirely different outcome than the one that we are in already?. Are dreams a portal to these events which never happened?. Is it the reason why we feel déjà vu at times since we have seen or experienced this somewhere before?.
